OK, when I was first reading about this one, I got the usual excitement I get each time the PA makes a new proposal. Like, "Ooh, this is a good one! They can definitely negotiate something from this! Hockey any minute how! Weee!" But then the more I read/heard, the more I became convinced that this proposal is like the PA giving the owners the finger. I mean, obviously I hope that Snider and Lemieux have convinced like 15-18 other owners to join the anti-lockout camp, and that they will force negotiation from this proposal, and we'll have hockey by, like, end of January.. but honestly, I fully expect a flat out NO to come from the NHL any second now, and, like, Daly going "we are very disappointed, we keep giving HUGE (imaginary) concessions, but the players refuse to give an inch (just agree to indentured servitude and that owners can decide what to pay you, cattle!) and it is clear that even though we keep giving our best offers, the players keep refusing to negotiate! No hockey season for you, SO THERE!"... :/

I saw Skyfall the other day. After so many people said how awesome it was, I should have known it was going to be ...not my thing. I found it dreary and sad and hopeless. The only good thing was that when Mr Evil was implying that Bond was having his first gay experience, Bond said "what makes you think it's my first". Maybe one day soon instead of a Bond Girl we'll have a Bond Boy ;)

Still watching Elementary. Spousal unit loves it, but I am still trying to see if I will start liking it. The characters are just...maybe missing something? I was pretty excited to have Lucy Liu be Watson, but did they have to make her such an empty failure?? She never served as a military doctor, in fact she isn't a doctor at all, because oh noes! she has EMOTIONAL ISSUES! And as far as I can tell, she's not very good with her fists or a gun? And she has no interests, no hobbies, no direction in life...even worse, she has taken a job as a CARETAKER, as if she was a teacher or a nurse or a nanny...like, they couldn't even had let her remain a doctor?? And their Holmes is just, kind of a moron? :(:(:(

I am seriously considering giving up on Revenge. It is becoming a soap opera and I have never watched any of those tangled messes of highly convoluted bullshit and I am not about to start. This sucks, because I love Emily and Nolan (but not like that). But the beauty of Count of Monte Christo was in clarity and simplicity. A group of people had wrong the hero in the past. Some of them conspired, some were just heartless, but *their* actions are in the past. Now they are happily and contentedly living their lives, having forgotten about the person they've wronged. Enter our hero, with one plan. One by one, he doles out justice. As he finishes with each person, his reasons and his actions become crystal clear, and he moves on to the next. The people he finished do not come back. Revenge S1 seemed to be following the right path for a while, but I guess that's not a recipe for a multi-season television series? I am not sure what to do with the mess Revenge S2 has quickly devolved into..

When I read future hockey rpf, like, 2014+, I always want the author to be a GM and re-shuffle the various players to different teams... and even add some rookies (Nathan MacKinnon as the 2013 Oilers' #1 draft pick, Y/Y?:)

Like, I don't even read HP fic anymore, but this is STILL the best story of All Time. OF ALL TIME.

(why isn't there HP hockey RPF? hockey players as quiddich players, pro hockey teams as pro quiddich teams... I bet quiddich players mave missing teeth and crooked noses and concussions too!..)

PSA: ESPN2 will show its first KHL game, Lev Prague vs. Dynamo Moscow. If you are a Capitals fan, Alex Ovechkin wears #32 for Dynamo. Bruins' captain Zdeno Chara is signed with Lev, but I can't tell if he'll be playing on the 9th.

ETA: a little taste of KHL :)

In every fandom I've been in, there is always a character or two that everyone writes as kinda dumb and/or weak. It's understandable, stories need a bit of comic relief, and the dumbness or weakness of one person is the easiest was to show off the intelligence or strength of others.

And always, I crave the stories that portray this character as brilliant and strong. In hockey RPF stories the weak/dumb one tends to be Patrick Kane. My personal canon is that he is actually really really intelligent, but perhaps doesn't want to be? This is what keeps getting him into trouble, of course. Only, to my chagrin, nobody writes that. Seriously, I am pretty bummed..

can't you see him with a C on his jersey, being all bossy? Bossy Rossy could totally be his hockey nickname...

I am disappointed to see people continue to fangirl Drew Doughty. I'd like to point out a couple of things, in case you've forgotten:

1. Any woman knows that accusing any dude of rape will likely result in people ridiculing her and calling her a slut. If a dude is at all rich or famous, she'll be called a greedy slut. This is why only about 3% of rapes are reported.

2. Only about 3% of reported rapes get a conviction. Does this mean the other 97% of "alleged victims" were vicious lying greedy sluts? Or does it mean most rapists get away with it because our culture and judicial system are fucked up?

I chose to believe that most women are not deceitful, not hateful, not stupid, would not attempt to destroy another person's reputation for money. I chose to believe that this girl was not trying to trap this dude into marriage or make money off him.

We all have personally seen abundant evidence that a lot of men feel entitled to take from women whatever they want, without thought of concent, because they can. Is it so hard to believe that this large strong well-liked man took whatever he wanted from a woman and knew he would get away with it? And he did. And if this is the kind of man he is, we all know this woman is just one of many women he's done it to. All of you still fangirling Drew Doughty, are you like those little idiots who fangirl Chris Brown and say he can beat you up?

There needs to be some kind of a crossover thing, like, Disney/Hockey RPF, maybe? Or "the ladies of Twightlight date hockey players"... or maybe even "hockey players from Camp BioSteel go to SxSW and sleep their way through loads of bandom ppl"....or, like, Sidney Crosby goes to Hogwarts? Evgeni Malkin the exchange student from Durmstrang Institute? That's GOT to exist? Right? Patrick Kane the Slytherin and Jonathan Toews the Gryffindor? C'mon! :D!

And, of course, the big question: why doesn't anyone want to talk about Sochi2014 ice hockey men's team from USA getting stranded at the airport in London and US officials noticing the large number of US bands at some music festival in nearby Poland? I say, by Winter 2014 FOB has reunited for a short tour, and Pete and Andy suddenly find themselves trying to play defense and block pucks (Andy is awesome at chirping, of course)... Ryan Ross maybe regrets leaving Panic! when he hears about how Brendon is even good as a winger....

I wonder how it affects a person, being hated from a very young age, by both ones' peers and their families.. being threatened and called names AS A LITTLE KID.. If loads of people wish you would just go away and stop "stealing their spotlight" or their kids' spotlight... and will do all the nasty mean little stuff to you on the ice from, like, the age of SEVEN. Like, hitting your wrists with their stick over and over during face-offs, aiming pucks at your face... And any time you "whine" to those who are supposed to enforce the rules, you gets shit for it, so you gotta just shut up and take it and learn to dish it back.. like, does that make one have some ...anger issues?

So, you know that fic where Eric Staal is a girl (but still captain of the Canes)? And for the playoffs, since she can't grow a beard, she dyes her hair Cane-red? I was thinking that the real equivalent of a playoff beard for a lady would be not shaving her legs and armpits, not getting her eyebrows does... because isn't playoff beard, like a statement of complete commitment to the game to the extent that one abandons all personal grooming?

(And isn't a dye job the opposite of that?)
